Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
