Similar to Storm Claudia hit the northern region the prior day, Manchester City swept the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a convincing three goal triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their leadership claims as they strengthened their position at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Losses for United

This result signalled successive league losses for the United manager's side for the first time since spring 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the top team with their championship aspirations severely dented.

Manchester United's capability to balance domestic and continental football with a small team has been a hotly discussed topic since they secured entry to the UCL. The home side, on the other hand, could have added to their lead when a superb Vivianne Miedema pass sent Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it did not affect the result to the hosts. After failing to defeat any team who ended above them in the prior term, City's side now have wins against the Gunners and Manchester United to place them in a strong position after the opening fixtures.
